When you're feeling blue...

I found these two dresser stands at the beach. I might not have mentioned previously that we live 40 minutes from the Myrtle Beach, SC. I was down there with my Momma and we drove by this parking lot where a man had tons of furniture for sale, used, old, antique and junk. I spied these two beauties amongst the ruffage and snatched them up. I was lucky enough to get them for only $100 for both. I tried talking him down more because they needed work but he was firm. I knew I needed them for the master bedroom makeover so I sprang for them.
When we got home I inspected them and attempted to assess the work needed. I noticed a stamp that confirmed their worth, they are Drexel Heritage! I was tickled because they are quality furniture makers. This refurbishing job was definitely worth the time and effort to rescue them from the abuse they endured. Shown above are the handles...the tarnished brown handles shined right up after tons and tons of elbow grease with tireless effort!

I decided to paint them dark navy. I read about calcium carbonate online and found a recipe to turn regular latex paint into milk paint.

- 2 parts paint
- 1 part calcium carbonate
- 2-4 tbsp water

Mix to the same consistency of milk paint.

I decided to try it because I was searching for a color that was very particular and wasn't going to settle for anything else. They turned out spectacular and the recipe ended up being another weapon in my arsenal for the war on neglected furniture and things.

Here are a few pictures of before and after. Keep these in your memory bank because in February I will be unveiling the finished Master Bedroom pictures!
